Impressive. You have managed to catch a moment of relative peace and beauty amongst the machinery of war, yet at the same time it strikes a worrying cord with an abandoned helmet. Truly a worthy piece of photojournalism. In fact I do believe that I will +Fav this. Very well done.

Its a rarity to see wartime photojournalism on DA. Keep it up!

I need to start browsing these galleries more carefully because I didn't notice this when I visited a yesterday. Awesome picture and very very appropriate for this catagory.

I was in the Gulf the first time (1991) with a Helo detachment, HSL-34 now decommisioned. My biggest regret is that I did not take more photos than I did because I cherish the few that I have. Keep takin 'em ground pounder...your kids and family will appreciate them down the road.

this is capturing. at first you just see the helmet, then you look inside and see her photo. my brother was in iraq for about 8 months. he's back now obviously, but it made reality hit home. and so does this photo.

This is just speechless, what an amazing piece of work, the emotion, the story, the great fade in the sky, just overall perfect. I couldnt say it any better then the first person who commented
